Urlacher absent at OTAs too


By Vaughn McClure | Tribune staff reporter 12:02 AM CDT, May 20, 2008 Although Cedric Benson was not required to appear at a Monday court date related to his May 3 arrest, he was expected to join his Bears teammates for the start of organized team activities. But Benson was missing in action.

According to a teammate, Benson was nowhere in sight as the Bears began the voluntary OTAs. Adrian Peterson got the reps as the first-team running back with Benson gone. It's unclear whether Benson will rejoin the team Tuesday.

Linebacker Brian Urlacher also skipped the session because of his contract dispute with the club.

Coach Lovie Smith recently said Benson is the starter and that it's his job to lose. Smith is reserving judgment on Benson's arrest for boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest until all the facts are clear. Benson said he was not drunk and cooperated with police near Austin, Texas, where he attended college.

Monday's court date consisted of administrative business. Benson has another court date set for June 30.

motown as no quotes from lovie or angelo about ced missing, i'd say a very good chance ced was excused from practice( for the texas stuff) and trib trying to stir a pot that doesn't exist : )

at least 54 plays at a high level and has missed things and still played at a high level and is probably still healing up

Im disapointed in Benson cause it just seems like he gave up. They are still giving him a chance to revive his career why not take advantage of it
