NFL Events: Combine Player Profiles - Ryan Grice-Mullen

Ryan Grice-Mullen (WR)

Height:5'11"
Weight:183
College:Hawaii
Conference:WAC
Hometown:Rialto, CA
High School:Rialto

Overview

Top Performer: Bench Press & 20-Yard Shuttle

Like teammate Davone Bess, Grice-Mullen is an undersized receiver who plays with more quickness than straight-line speed and will be best suited playing the slot receiver position in the NFL. With head coach June Jones and his aggressive offensive philosophies leaving Hawaii, Grice-Mullen elected to leave school early. It could be a decision he regrets, as much of his success is due to Jones' scheme and not elite athleticism or size on Grice-Mullen's part.

High School

A 2004 graduate of Rialto High School in California...earned three varsity letters in football and one in track...played quarterback, defensive back and running back...ran for 1,155 yards on 153 carries while splitting time between running back and quarterback in 2003...named all-county and all-league...an honor-roll student.

Analysis

Positives:

Good initial quickness off the snap. ... Flashes burst out of his breaks. ... Generally reliable hands and shows the body control to adjust and make the difficult reception. ... Good lateral quickness to make defenders miss in the open field.

Negatives:

More quick than fast. ... May struggle to generate separation from defenders in more traditional offenses due to only marginal quickness out of his breaks. ... Only normal acceleration when breaking into the open field and too often doesn't separate from defenders. ... Can be caught from behind.
