| | | Dagan - from the looks of it, they may be better off waiting till the 2nd to go after Doucet or trading down from the 14th

| | | I think that Early Doucet is currently being projected aa a mid-1st round pick.

| | | I am a big fan of Baker from USC.
No way do I want a QB in the first round.
I am even against a WR in the first round as it seems to take those guys 2-3 seasons to adjust to the NFL.
Taking the Safety from Miami also would not be a bad move if we address the OL in free agency and still take another lineman in the draft at some point.

| | | The Bears are never willing to take a chance on anything... at least not in recent years. They draft poorly when they do. I think Brian Brohm, should he be available in our draft position, would be an excellent choice.

| | QB or Safety in first, O line with next three picks.
Terrific thread, btw.

| | | I'm hearing now on various sites that Brian Brohm might be available in the middle of the 1st Round.

| | | I say that, meaning that these sites are suggesting that the Bears are going to draft him. Who knows?

| | | I actually would be interested in seeing the Bears drafting Brian Brohm, to be quite honest. At this point in time, I think the need for a stable quarterback outweighs the need for a wide receiver. There's a chance that the Bears could go for Early Doucet if he drops to 2nd Round. But our quarterback situation is ridiculous. Even though Brohm would be a rookie, he couldn't possibly be worse than the quarterbacks we currently have.

| | | Hello everyone.
I agree with everyone that has said they would not want to use our top pick on a WR, mainly due to the fact that we have other, more pressing needs and we need instant help on offense, with many WR's taking several years to truly develop.
IMHO the quickest and best way of an instant upgrade is to take an OT in the 1st rnd (Clady, Baker and Otah are top of my wishlist now that Long is out of reach). A franchise LT would be ideal, with Tait able to move across and replace the shocking Fred Miller.
Next, I would take a QB in the 2nd. Hopefully the reduced pressure of not being the latest Bears 1st rnd QB messiah/whipping boy, coupled with a year of looking on while Rex and Kyle battle it out (I would let Griese go to make room on the roster), would hugely benefit his long term development.
With our two 3rd round picks I would look to strengthen the ranks at S (a hard hitter like Steltz?) and WR (I'd go for production over athleticism... please not another Bradley), before going into the 4th rnd in the hope that West Virginia's power FB Owen Schmitt is still available as a huge upgrade over McKie.
I know that RB continues to be a huge worry, but with a top rookie OT, a top FA OG and a nasty and bruising FB, I would give Cedric and co another shot, possibly with some additional competition from a late round project RB.
If Ced continues to suck, even behind a much improved core of blockers, at least we know how to spend our top 2009 draft pick. If not, I'm sure we will have a few other positions in need of some attention, but at least QB and RB could both be dropped from that list.
Thanks for reading and GO BEARS!!!

| | | just figured I'd chime in here again:
if we stand at 14 I'd go with (listing multiple possibilities b/c obviously many won't be available)
OT: Ryan Clady, Boise State; Chris Williams, Vanderbilt
S: Kenny Phillips, Miami
WR: DeSean Jackson, California; Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma
I'd be much happier w/an OT or S but wouldn't lose my lunch if we took a WR as we are going to be very light there next year w/Berrian gone (and I'd rather not bet the farm on Bradley, as optimistic as I am about his potential)
If we trade down from 14
OT: Jeff Otah, Pittsburgh; Sam Baker, USC
S: Reggie Smith, Oklahoma

| | | At some point, though, we need to look at a quarterback.
