| | | Geovany Soto puts up All-Star numbers
CUBS BITS BY PAUL SULLIVAN
May 14, 2008
All-Star voting has begun in earnest, but one of the Cubs' most deserving candidates will have to overcome a lack of name recognition to be chosen as a National League starter.
Geovany Soto is far ahead of most NL catchers in most offensive categories, and among the top-10 hitters in doubles (tied for second with 13), slugging percentage (tied for 10th at .581), on-base percentage (tied for ninth at .419) and extra-base hits (tied for eighth with 20).
"It'd be a tremendous honor, and if I went I'd say, 'Wow,' " Soto said. "But that's not really my goal. I just want to keep healthy, play the whole year and stay consistent."
Defensively, Soto ranks third in the league in percentage of baserunners caught stealing (34.8 percent), leaving him at 36.4 percent (12 of 33) in 53 games in '07 and '08. The other five Cubs catchers in '07—Michael Barrett, Rob Bowen, Jason Kendall, Koyie Hill and Henry Blanco—were a combined 12-of-104 (11.5 percent) in throwing out runners.
After playing four years in the minors before getting a real chance late last season, Soto is making the most of his opportunity.
"You have to have that on your mind, but you can't really think about it," he said. "You just have to go do your job, put up numbers and doors will open for you." |

| | | Yep There is nothing posted officially on the internet as of yet, but it sure seems like a done deal. I really would like to see if Pie is ever going to adjust in the majors. Having him back in AAA is not going to answer the long term question IMHO. Quote:

| | | It won't answer it. But If Edmonds comes here, we got RJ. I'd say NOT sign Edmonds. Too old and broken down. And who in the HELL is going to buy the Cubs?????

| | It might work the get the World Cahmps on the northside. But what if we do get Edmonds and he get hurt??? I'm sure he wants big $$$$$$. And on personal note: I never like Ron Cey. And he was just a Dodger. Not a stinking ex-card. Just my opinion, Ben.

| | | Edmonds wont be getting big money, he will be signed for the prorated league minimum. about 200K
thats a tip in the bucket
If he doesnt play up to expectations after a few weeks, he is going to be cut. Its a low risk high reward chance. While I dont like it, there is nothing really to lose
