I posted this in one of the threads in the main football forum, but I invite comments on this article I wrote:
As I See It: What's the matter with Rex Grossman? (click on the title to access the link)
Rex needs to step it up, or else think about another team to play for where he may be a better fit. Read my article, and I'll tell you why I think he should think about playing elsewhere.
That, and perhaps the Bears should think about another QB in the draft. Don't get me wrong, I'm still like the kid, but he needs to clean up his act.
Griese isn't the long-term answer to the Bear's issues; he's nowhere NEAR the QB his father was. If he was that good, he would have kept his job in Denver to begin with and not have been run out of town like he was.
Orton held his own as a rookie and gave it his best shot, but he's not the answer either. True we won with Orton in 2005 until Rex returned, but we weren't relly generating any offense when he was starting.
Not just Rex, but the whole
TEAM - and I emphasize that word because football isn't just about the quarterback, it's about the
TEAM - looked like
shit on Sunday night. There was no excuse for Berrian to be dropping catchable balls, and he didn't do Rex any justice. That one fake FG attempt by Robbie Gould was poorly executed, that fumble by Benson was costly, the O-line broke down way too many times, and our defense was missing too many tackles, Brian Urlacher included.
It's true that it's early in the season, but already Rex has left a bad taste in many mouths. I hope we can bounce back and Rex can perhaps prove the skeptics wrong if he starts against Detroit, but he has a huge monkey on his back to shake off right now. He can choose to sink or swim, and I hope he decides to save his own life and swim for his sake and the sake of his team.
